About Title VI Program

Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act is the legal authority for the Alabama Department of Transportation’s internal and external
nondiscriminatory programs. ALDOT’s Title VI Program includes statutes that prohibit discrimination in the receiving of services and
benefits based on race, color, and national origin in programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. Once an Agency
accepts federal funds, all its programs and activities are covered, regardless of their funding source. Other related nondiscriminatory
statutes and Presidential Executive Orders (EO) under the umbrella of Title VI address Environmental Justice (EJ) in minority and
low-income populations and services to individuals with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).
